Sasha and Mira Report: Bosnian Food Pantry

We helped 4,325 families this year. We are thankful for each volunteer; we encourage you as you serve God by helping others at the Food Pantry: 4228 S. Kingshighway Blvd. One Bosnian man approached me, “Do you know that you are going to have a great reward for what you are doing before Allah?” I replied, “Do you know that if I don’t have love for you and the other people here, no deeds can help me before God?” I appreciate every chance to talk with people and share what I receive from God!

The Food Pantry

to be the hands of Christ,

The Lenten Walk toward Calvary begins Ash Wednesday, February 22. Our service at 7:00 p.m. begins a spiritual journey that will span forty days. This is a time of prayer, fasting, self-examination, and penitence as we prepare to celebrate Easter. We are unworthy but because of the cross and the resurrection, the Lord God offers us the grace of salvation and eternity. We are called to renew our commitments and our faith as we humbly bow before the Lord God. Join your Christian family on Ash Wednesday as we make this journey together.

Women Deacons

Wyndy McRoy became the first woman to be ordained a WGBC deacon in 2000. Since then Ruth Ellsworth, Bernice Edmonson and Christine Bunch have joined the ranks of women deacons.

Youth/Children Lunch 2/12/2012

WGBC hosts a monthly lunch for the youth and children on the second Sunday of each month. Individuals or Sunday School classes are being asked to donate a meal for our youth and children. Ken and Pat Clark hosted this group in December; Wyndy and Joe McRoy hosted the January lunch. If you (or a group of you) are willing to host a lunch, contact Judy Holstein, Christine Bunch or Donald Johnson.

Linda Taylor to preach at WGBC 2/19/2012

Beginning in 2007, Baptist Women in Ministry has invited Baptist churches to participate in Martha Stearns Marshall Month of Preaching by having a woman preach during the month of February. This annual event has been a deeply significant source of joy and discovery for many women and churches. God does indeed call women to the work of the kingdom. This year, WGBC invites Linda Taylor to preach on February 19.

Martha Stearns Marshall (1726-1754) was a Separate Baptist preacher in the southern United States. She spread the gospel alongside her husband, Daniel Marshall (1706-84). She also stood alongside her brother Shubal Stearns (founding pastor of Sandy Creek Baptist Church, N.C.) and spoke at Baptist meetings.

80% pledged to Preservation Fund

The trustees established a $5000 Preservation Fund for a Window / Air Conditioning project for the summer of 2012. Several have pledged money in excess of $4,000. Weekly giving to this fund continues.

The stained glass windows are an important part of our building. The glass and metal work of these beautiful windows is in great condition, but the wood frames are deteriorating. To protect these windows, we need to have the woodwork scrapped, treated, and painted.
The air conditioning unit serving the gymnasium, Choir Room, upstairs bathrooms, and offices are essential. The south unit needs to be replaced

Welcome to our family: Webster Groves Baptist Church has been vital part of the Webster Community since 1913. Our congregation continues today seeking to be Christ’s church in a changing community and world. Our Mission Statement reflects who we are and where we are going as a people:
We are an autonomous congregation of Baptist Christians worshiping God and ministering together as disciples of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to equip every member to faithfully share the gospel of Jesus Christ with our community and world.

How to unite with our Congregation: Any person may join the WGBC community of faith by:

profession your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and being baptized; or
transferring your membership from another Baptist church; or
joining by statement of Christian experience and baptism from a church of another denomination; or
joining under “watch care” of the church, as an associate member, while retaining membership in your home church.

Pastor: Dean Stewart began at WGBC as an interim pastor on July 1, 2003. Stewart is a graduate of Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar, MO, and Southwestern Seminary, Ft. Worth, TX. On February 29, 2004, the church installed Stewart as Pastor. Dean and his wife Gail have lived in the St. Louis area since 1986. They are the proud parents of three sons and six grandchildren.

Rummage Sale – after Easter

Begin collecting items now for the Rummage Sale – but do NOT bring the items to the church building until after Easter. Items that sell easily: Household items, garden, kitchen, small furniture, toys, CD’s, tools, holiday decorations, clothing, books, miscellaneous.
